Sanjay Ajmera
- Role
- Whole-Time Director,
Ajmera Realty & Infra India Ltd.
Three decades inside one of India’s long-standing real estate groups — spent close to the ground: business development, liaison with government and municipal authorities, and the development and construction of projects in Pune.
Begin01 Introduction
A career measured in projects, not titles.
Sanjay C. Ajmera has been actively involved in the Ajmera Group for almost thirty-one years. In an industry where attention tends to gather around launches and skylines, his work has sat further upstream: at the point where a piece of land, a set of approvals and a construction programme either come together or do not.
He is associated with business development for the Group and works in liaison with government and municipal authorities — the long, procedural work that determines whether a project is buildable at all. Alongside that, he plays a leading role in the development and construction of the Group’s projects in Pune, and is associated with the redevelopment projects the Group undertakes.
- Business development across the Group’s portfolio.
- Liaison with government and municipal authorities.
- Development and construction of projects in Pune.
- Redevelopment projects undertaken by the Group.
02 Profile — the remit
Four areas of
responsibility.
Described in the company’s published board profile, and unchanged in emphasis for three decades.
-
i
Business development
Identifying and progressing the opportunities that become the Group’s next projects — the work of assessing a site, its constraints and its realistic programme before commitments are made.
-
ii
Civic and municipal liaison
Working in liaison with government and municipal authorities. In Indian real estate this is not administrative overhead; it is the discipline that decides timelines, and it rewards patience and consistency over pressure.
-
iii
Pune: development and construction
A leading role in the development and construction of the Group’s projects in Pune — a city where the Ajmera name goes back to its early housing work at Pimpri.
-
iv
Redevelopment
Association with the redevelopment projects undertaken by the Group: work carried out on occupied, established sites, where existing residents are the first stakeholders and consent is earned rather than assumed.
03 Journey
A three-decade tenure,
set inside a
fifty-eight-year house.
The Ajmera Group traces its beginning to 1968, when Shri Chhotalal S. Ajmera laid its groundwork from a headquarters in Manish Nagar, Andheri, Mumbai. Sanjay Ajmera’s own tenure — almost thirty-one years — covers the period in which the Group moved from large-format housing colonies into townships, high-rise development and, later, listed-company discipline.

04 Perspective
Practicality, held for
thirty years.
Mr. Sanjay C. Ajmera’s practical approach and pleasing personality have contributed to the success of various prestigious projects all over India.
It is a short line, and an unusually precise one. Two qualities are named — practicality and personability — and both belong to the same job: getting difficult work agreed, approved and built. Neither is a slogan. Both are the sort of thing colleagues, officials and residents notice over years rather than meetings.

For editors, writers and organisers.
